About F-Prime

Experience, evidence and judgment in consequential settings.

Steven Hansen, founder of F-Prime Consulting.

F-Prime is grounded in the belief that better decisions are rarely the product of information alone.

They depend on how people frame problems, weigh competing considerations, test assumptions, hear different perspectives and translate judgment into action.

Experience in consequential settings

Steven Hansen brings nearly three decades of executive, public-sector and military leadership experience to F-Prime. He currently serves as President of Holland Power Services and Gagnon Line Construction, leading critical-infrastructure businesses operating across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean.

His work has included strategy, governance, organizational transformation, operations and emergency response. That experience has been shaped in settings where leaders must act with incomplete information, competing priorities and real operational and human consequences.

Military service is an important additional source of perspective. Steven served for 23 years as a Combat Engineer officer, gaining experience with command, preparation, ambiguity, team performance and judgment under changing conditions. It is one dimension of a broader leadership practice, not the defining identity of F-Prime.

Experience informed by evidence

Practical experience is complemented by sustained engagement with research and evidence. Steven holds a JD and MBA and is conducting doctoral research in corporate governance, diversity and decision-making.

Together, these perspectives inform an approach that draws from experience without relying on anecdote, and evidence without losing sight of practice.

Putting judgment into practice

F-Prime brings these perspectives to executive and board advisory, strategic facilitation, leadership and decision-making workshops, and speaking. The work creates opportunities for leaders, boards and organizations to consider consequential questions with greater clarity and translate judgment into action.

The Better Decision Project complements this applied practice. As an independent research and ideas platform, it develops and explores ideas about the conditions that make better judgment possible. F-Prime creates opportunities to put those ideas into practice.
